A Slightly-Tired Benchmark of New World Gewurzt

Dark sherry straw and an almost cloudy suspension.  Bottle etched inside.  Some classic Gewurztraminer essences intact, but faded.  Light petrol, spice and buttered toast/popcorn.  Sweet caramel and banana.  Should have been drunken a couple years ago, clearly.  This–with Navarro–is one of the best New World interpretations of dry, Alsatian-style gewurzt.  And this bottle is from the old days of fording the creek to the winery and visiting with the old German couple.  This one has lost a considerable portion of the magic.  Great cut-grass and butter on the palate, with crisp acidity still present.  Round and full on the tongue, but fading off into warm roundness and lacking a lot of the amazing nuances we revisit aged Gewurztraminer for over and over.  Glad I opened it.  0.0% RS  14-2   ♦♦
