Thinnish ruby with pink edges. Massive dark-fruit and oak nose with a generous helping of alcohol juxtaposed against unmistakable brier and minerality. A tiny glimpse of barnyard initially and–to a lesser extent–further in. This thing is a real head-stopper in the nose. Huge and jammy, heady and opulent, plush and woody, weedy and volatile. SBC polish, but SRH lack of restraint.
In the mouth, rather meager–but big, sweet, ripe–fruit with a citrus edge playing off the alcohol and the whole thing thins out into bitter tannin. A real crowd-pleaser in the Pinot Noir category and if you are fans of Twomey and Bella Glos, this would be a serious step up into the realm of small-lot Pinot with character. A little too jelly-doughnut for me, but not a horrible package, all things considered.
