Staining ruby, medium density. Big luscious nose packed with licorice, mint, and beautiful vanilla over a black-cherry base. Sweet and round–even a tad flabby–but anchored well with spice and heat. In the mouth, clean pure concentrated fruit with shockingly more backbone that imagined from the bouquet. Sharply acidic, with grainy red rocks undulating in the background. Warm and clear, I expect a concentration which just doesn’t materialize. The buttery, dense fruit comes off focused and bright, using every one of it’s three ‘strange-bedfellows’ components to compliment an extremely workable–but heavy-handed–Red Blend.
