Staining ruby with no edges. Dripping pine tree concentration ridiculously fruit-forward and yet effortlessly maintaining an English cheddar, honey butter, beef blood decadence of richness, seamless minerality and right bank-worthy acids. Oak and dessert-quality spice dominate on all levels.
In the mouth a grainy overripe note flailing against flabbiness settles down with a little air. This one definitely needs decanting to show well. With a little breathing it loses some of its initial Washington-esque plasticine fruit weakness and heads back into banana-peel acrid complication that is very welcome by this reviewer.
A chain-mail fruit curtain of so dense so dark not a glimmer of daylight shines through and yet… there’s a brightness to it. Floodlights at the drag-strip sorta brightness, illuminating all your base instincts while Night broods and commiserates under the bleachers. Dense black cherry and rich berry grate against the healthy tannins far into the finish, making this a BARGAIN winner on numerous levels.
