Hardcore dense garnet, clear thin edges. Great nose showing all the tertiary one would expect from a blend that drinks perfectly on release and is nearing the end of its expected shelf-life. Don’t forget, this is a ‘Proprietary Red’, which is code for “it’s got Syrah in it”. Sometimes these additions are methodically ingratiating and obvious, but this one has always wowwed me with its balance and Meritage-driven structure.
Dark fruit separating itself on a granular level clearly and distinctly from the bouquet and still mind-numbing tannins. An interesting and excellent orphan. I’m telling myself I’m glad I drank it, but I wish I had one for 2020 and maybe even 2025.
