Full-on garnet with Fernet edges. Gamey, meaty, fat and round nose. Soiled flat cola on wet paper and reduced cherry with a side of salty stew. Pretty much the same in the mouth, heat masquerading as acid, doing little to thin the flabbiness and sweetness. An extremely user-friendly Pinot in the mold of Cherry Pie, Sea Smoke, En Route and Belle Glos–but for half the price. A completely useable Santa Maria Pinot Noir, just not for any enthusiast of real Pinot. There’s just nothing going on in this wine but obesity and careful manipulation of all things yummy. At the expense of anything varietally correct. Well… Varietally correct for the California masses in 2017, but not for anyone with a pulse.
