Beaujolais Nouveau est Arrivé!

Gritty fig, rubber band and new carpet. Plum pudding and those strips of pie-crust trimmings your mother sprinkled cinnamon and coarse sugar on and baked. Tasting it is like being licked by your favorite cat.

I get accused on a fairly regular basis of having a “California palate”. Of course 99% of the time it is by people in Oregon and Washington who make shitty wine. But if that is the case–if I truly have developed a California palate–why do I like Beaujolais Nouveau more and more the older I get? I used to hate it and roll my eyes at it and make fun of it like everybody does. It’s an easy joke. But I find myself more and more really appreciating it. Maybe I’m just drinking better quality Beaujolais Nouveau. I can remember one last year that blew me away and this one is just stupid good. This is literally one of those wines which ridiculously blur the line between Nouveau and Cru.
